There are things we learn in theory and abstract concepts, like in school. And then there are things you only learn when you just start doing. This act of doing carried me along on its own momentum like a small ship riding a big wave. What started as a simple vibe-coding project to get my hands dirty on Claude code and gen AI concepts, became an obsession. I trawled through 40+ official credit card pages, wondering how I am to make sense of it all in a standardized data schema.
When AI tools can do so much, we delegate "dirty" work to them. But trawling through many credit card benefits gave me the intuition, a rough directional shape of what a good card benefits schema could look like beyond what Claude's multiple web fetches could ever do. And of course it never hurts to have a human-verified set of evals!
I built this because I wanted to find ways to simplify things for the modern day consumer. There are times when I've looked at a credit card page and blanked out on what exactly the card benefits were.
When discovering credit cards, I realised also that it wasn't just about annual savings. There were travel lounge benefits, petrol discounts, and more. Credit Cat surfaces these too if you ask.
